The snail advances when the app reads your position. If location is set to Allow Once, iOS revokes it silently when you close the app. Check Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Snail and set it to Always. The snail never stops moving regardless; going dark is not a defence.
Snail reads daily step totals from Apple Health. Grant access in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Snail and turn on Steps. Steps are read for the current day and a few days back, so a day you walked before granting access can still count.
Allow them in Settings › Notifications › Snail, then open Snail once so it can register your device. You should hear from the game twice a day, and more often as the snail closes in.
